The O2X Tactical Performance Podcast: Episode 16 – Kayla Schmit

Kayla Schmit | O2X On-Site Specialist for Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue Department

Kayla is an O2X On-Site Specialist for Frederick County Fire & Rescue in Maryland.

She graduated from Winona State University in 2016 with a B.S. in Exercise Science and a minor in Nutrition. Kayla then continued her education and graduated with a Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Outdoor Recreation: Sports Performance & Conditioning from Southern Utah University.

While completing her Masters, Kayla chose to conduct her thesis research within the tactical populations. Her research was focused on identifying the significance of the relationship between the physical demands of firefighting and the physical fitness qualities of firefighters. Her research was then published.

Early on in her career, Kayla spent 3 years implementing a human performance program for the career Firefighters of Rochester (MN) Fire Department. This included annual movement screenings, pre-habilitation programs, and tactical strength and conditioning programs.

In 2019, she joined O2X Human Performance as an On-Site Specialist for FCFR. She now works with Frederick Firefighters and leadership to train, equip, and prepare the population for optimal on the job performance.
