Dr. Tom Gooding is an O2X On-Site Human Performance Specialist specializing in Strength & Conditioning and currently embedded with Spokane County Fire District 9. A Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Tom brings nearly a decade of experience supporting athletes, tactical professionals, and general populations. He is passionate about helping individuals optimize performance, reduce injury risk, and improve long-term health through movement, recovery, sleep, and nutrition. His philosophy is simple: exercise is medicine, especially when paired with quality sleep and sound nutritional habits.
In addition to his role with O2X, Tom is an active researcher whose work focuses on the relationship between sleep, physical activity, health, and human performance. Prior to joining O2X, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Occupational Sleep Medicine at Washington State University, where he provided fatigue mitigation and performance guidance to aviation industry partners. His research has also explored injury risk, recovery, and prevention strategies among endurance athletes, including Ironman triathletes. Tom's unique blend of clinical, performance, and research experience allows him to translate evidence-based science into practical strategies that improve readiness and resilience.
Tom earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Northern Kentucky University, his Master of Education in Athletic Training from the University of Virginia, and his Ph.D. in Nutrition & Exercise Physiology from Washington State University. Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and two dogs. When he's not supporting firefighters or conducting research, you'll likely find him running, hiking, snowboarding, fishing, gardening, or taking advantage of the outdoors with his family.
