Lexington (KY) Fire Department Learning to Fight Mental and Physical Stressors

O2X Human Performance to deliver workshop on performance optimization

Lexington, KY – From August 15th-17th, the Lexington Fire Department (LFD) will host a three-day human performance workshop. The event will be led by O2X Human Performance, a training and education company that works primarily with tactical populations to optimize performance and increase career longevity.

Firefighters and other first responders face extraordinary challenges daily, leading to compounding stress over a 20+ year career. During the workshop, firefighters with LFD will learn ways to manage the chronic stress that comes with a career in public safety. This training will help attendees mitigate the impact of mental and physical strain that can lead to behavioral health issues, fatigue, & burnout.

“These workshops are an excellent opportunity for our firefighters to have access to education and resources that give them the skills to support the physical and mental wellness of the Lexington fire department”, said Captain Kevin Deweese of the Lexington Fire Training Academy.  “And we believe this is the great first step to building a sustainable wellness program that will enable our members to thrive in a demanding profession.”

Topics covered will include strategies to mitigate the risk of injury, tools to enhance performance under pressure and manage high stress jobs, and education on proper nutrition, sleep hygiene, and foundations of movement – all designed specifically to meet the unique training needs of firefighters.

“We’re excited to bring our program to first responders in the great state of Kentucky,” said Adam La Reau, Co-founder at O2X Human Performance. “When those serving in public safety step onto the job, they are signing up for a long and stressful career. It’s critical they learn techniques to manage that stress in healthy ways. We’re confident our curriculum will assist in enhancing the careers of those who bravely serve the Lexington community.”

O2X Human Performance has successfully trained thousands of first responders and collaborated with hundreds of public safety agencies nationwide to provide state-of-the-art training and education aimed specifically at helping first responders finish their careers as strong as they started. The workshop will be held from 8am – 4pm at the Lexington Fire Department Training Academy
