Des Moines Firefighters Place Emphasis On Health & Wellness
O2X Human Performance to provide training and education for local firefighters with workshop sponsored by MSA Safety
Des Moines, IA – On December 15th, 60 members of Des Moines Fire Department will participate in a one-day human performance workshop sponsored by MSA Safety. The workshop will be run by O2X Human Performance, a Massachusetts based company that provides innovative training and education focused on performance optimization and career longevity for the tactical population.
Firefighters and other first responders face extraordinary challenges that can lead to compounding stress over a 20+ year career. The workshop will incorporate training aimed at mitigating the impact of both mental and physical strain that can lead to behavioral health issues, fatigue, and burnout. During the sessions, firefighters will learn about nutrition, injury risk reduction, sleep, stress management, and resilience.
“Our firefighters are placed in situations that challenge them both physically and mentally on a daily basis,” Des Moines Fire Department Chief John TeKippe said. “This workshop provides them with an opportunity to learn about training methods and techniques that they can use to improve their physical and mental health so that they can continue to get the most out of their career and their lives.”
Delivering the curriculum will be O2X’s team consisting of U.S. Special Operations veterans, strength and conditioning coaches, mental performance experts, PhDs in nutrition and psychology, as well as sleep scientists – all dedicated to helping first responders elevate occupational performance.
O2X Human Performance has successfully worked with hundreds of public safety agencies nationwide to design and implement customized wellness programs. Their mission is to elevate culture, improve mental and physical wellbeing, support healthy lifestyles, and reduce healthcare costs associated with injuries and illnesses.
“We’re proud to partner with O2X to deliver a workshop that will help to improve the lives of firefighters in Des Moines – both in body and in mind,” said Ben Mauti, MSA Fire Service Segment Director for Northern North America. “At MSA, helping men and women work in safety and live in health are core to our mission, and this sponsorship allows us to help these Iowa firefighters take a step toward maintaining better overall health at their department.”
The training will take place at the 2006 S Ankeny Blvd Bldg 5, Ankeny, IA 50023
