Crescent River Port Pilots Partner with Elite Specialists to Enhance Performance

O2X Human Performance to provide critical education for state river pilots after record breaking high river year

Belle Chasse, Louisiana – Crescent River Port Pilots face challenging dangers every day on the mighty, and often treacherous, Mississippi River; as such, more than 60 river pilots will undergo an intensive wellness and safety workshop led by the nation’s leading performance experts on Tuesday, February 4 and Thursday, February 6. The pilots’ training sessions will be from 1pm – 4pm at the Crescent River Port Pilots Association Offices at 8712 LA-23, Belle Chasse, LA 70037.

The workshops will be run by O2X Human Performance, a training and education company founded by former Navy SEALs.  During the workshop sessions, participants will learn about nutrition, sleep, stress management, and resilience. River pilots will also get specific instructions on fatigue and energy management. The O2X team of over 100 Specialists includes U.S. Special Operations veterans, strength and conditioning coaches, mental performance experts, nutritionists, and psychologists, as well as sleep scientists – all dedicated to helping tactical athletes elevate their human performance.

“Our pilots need to be functioning at a very high level both neurologically and physically day in and day out to safely transport dangerous cargo container ships and passenger vessels safely through the Mississippi River which is the lifeblood of the local and national economy,” said E. Michael Bopp, President of the Crescent River Port Pilots Association.  “It is imperative to make sure every member of our team is equipped to mentally and physically handle their jobs every day.”

Members of the Crescent River Port Pilots Association (CRPPA),  who protect hundreds of thousands of Southeast Louisiana residents and their property, safely guide more than a half-trillion dollars in cargo on freighter ships larger than three football fields, are committed to health and safety.  Working as first responders on one of the busiest rivers in the world, their mission remains to keep Louisiana as one of the world’s largest and safest waterways. Given the highly demanding physical and mental challenges of the pilot’s job, it’s critical that river pilots undergo rigorous training to stay healthy while also maintaining their mental health to stay alert and prepared for any danger that may arise while leading a ship through the challenging Mississippi River waterways.

Louisiana ranks #1 in the U.S. in waterborne traffic, which includes transporting more than a million passengers on cruise ships each year.  River pilots battle fog, high water, swift currents, and severe weather day in and day out as they move massive ships ranging from 4,000-person cruise ships, to 100,000-ton international tankers filled with dangerous cargo, in and out of the Mississippi River every day.

“We’re thrilled to bring our programming to this group of men and women in Louisiana for the first time,” said Adam La Reau, Co-founder at O2X Human Performance. “This workshop will act as a foundation for these ship pilots to keep their physical health and mental wellness a part of their daily lives in order to stay prepared for the demands of their job.”

O2X Human Performance has successfully trained thousands of tactical athletes and collaborated with hundreds of public safety departments, federal agencies, and the military nationwide. They aim to provide state-of-the-art training and education geared specifically to help high-risk professionals finish their careers as strong as they started.
