Baltimore County to Prioritize Health & Wellness for Firefighters and Police Officers
O2X Human Performance to provide training and education for local first responders with workshop sponsored by Cigna
Baltimore, MD – On September 24, 60 members of the Baltimore County Fire and Baltimore County Police departments will begin an intensive four-day wellness, safety and performance training workshop sponsored by Cigna.
The workshop will be run by O2X Human Performance, a training and education company founded by former Navy SEALs. As tactical athletes, firefighters and police officers risk their lives daily to keep their communities safe. They endure physical, and more importantly, mental stress throughout their careers and as a result, it’s become critical that they train their bodies properly to stay healthy, but also maintain their mental health.
During the sessions, participants will learn about nutrition, conditioning, sleep, stress management and resilience training from O2X’s team that includes U.S. Special Operations veterans, strength and conditioning specialists, yoga teachers, mental performance experts, PhDs in nutrition and psychology, as well as sleep scientists.
“We’re proud to partner with O2X to deliver this initiative that engages people and our communities, health care providers, and private and public entities to improve whole person health – both body and mind,” said Monica Schmude, president for Cigna’s Mid-Atlantic market. “At Cigna, our mission is to improve health, well-being and peace of mind. Helping Baltimore County first responders maintain the heathiest public safety workforce is critical for our community.”
O2X Human Performance has successfully worked with hundreds of public safety agencies nationwide to provide innovative training and education aimed to help first responders finish their careers as strong as they started.
“Our police and fire personnel put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities. We take their physical and mental health very seriously and we are proud to do whatever we can to support them,” said County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “It is our hope that the officers and firefighters participating in this training will walk away equipped with tools for holistic wellness and performance and a higher level of readiness for their jobs.”
The training will take place at the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Department.
