Air National Guard to Optimize Health and Wellness

Partners with O2X to Pilot Human Performance Programs within Air Support Operations Squadrons

Scituate, MA – Starting in September 2023, the Air National Guard (ANG) will be kicking off a comprehensive wellness program within four of their Air Support Operations Squadrons (ASOS). Along with frequent mental and physical performance-based training, the program includes a full-time Human Performance Specialist, embedded at each unit, to assist in developing human performance initiatives and optimizing performance on the Tier 2 Operator Fitness Test (OFT).

This program is being delivered by O2X Human Performance, a Massachusetts based training and education company founded by former Navy SEALs. O2X has worked with a variety of units across the Department of Defense and has designed programs for federal, state, and local agencies nationwide. They provide state-of-the-art training and education aimed specifically at helping tactical athletes finish their careers as strong as they started.

Receiving the program will be the 147 ASOS (Houston, TX), 148 ASOS (Fort Indiantown Gap, PA), 274 ASOS (Syracuse, NY), and 284 ASOS (McConnell AFB, KS). Each unit trains, equips, and deploys mission qualified Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Operators that are certified Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC).

“The collaboration with O2X represents a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing the operator’s performance in both tactical and garrison settings – across the cognitive, nutritional, and physical domains” said Major Kristopher Bartels with the 147 ASOS. “This approach takes into account the interconnectedness of these modalities to provide a holistic solution to optimize the performance of our tactical athletes.”

The new training is about much more than just improving fitness. It takes a comprehensive approach to improving the overall capability to perform across all pillars of human performance. As tactical athletes, airmen endure physical and mental stress throughout their careers that can have acute and cumulative impacts to health. The ANG has taken an important step in combating these occupational hazards through this partnership with O2X. Elements of conditioning, injury prevention, nutrition, fatigue management and sleep science, stress mitigation, sports psychology, and resilience will be delivered to airmen through O2X’s network of Human Performance Specialists.

“We’re excited to bring the O2X curriculum to the most elite community in the Air National Guard.” said Paul McCullough, Co-founder at O2X Human Performance. “It’s important that those defending our freedoms keep physical and mental wellness as a part of their daily lives. Our hope is that the O2X team can play a key role in supporting the ANG through enhancing the performance of their airmen.”
